Peace is passionate
about families and was named Johnstone Shire 2008
Australia Day Citizen of the year for her work in creating
a more family friendly environment in her local community.

Peace
is a member of the Cairns Tourism Association committe and
has
recently been appointed as the 2009 judging coordinator
for this organisation's monthly awards. The
Cairns Tourism Association promotes excellence in service
within the Tourism and Hospitality
Industry and each month recognises individuals providing
outstanding service in this region, an overall winner is
then chosen from the monthly finalists at the prestigious
Kamsler Awards held in Cairns in December each year.
She is also the co-author of 'What I wish I knew before I became a mother' . A book written for new and expectant mothers about pregnancy and life with a newborn, published by Boolarong Press and co-authored with her sister Katy Garner.
Peace co founded not for profit organisation, Mothers Helping
Others Inc. with 3 friends following the devastation of Cyclone
Larry in 2006. In just 2 years this group had published a book
of children's stories, built a new public playground, held
a photographic exhibition for mothers, established a young
parents playgroup, implemented a community literacy program,
run a range of parenting workshops and held a glamourous charity
girls night out.
Peace is a member of the board of management of Playgroup
Queensland and is the voice for families with young children
in regional and rural Queensland in this role. As a committed
member of Playgroup Queensland she keeps up to date with the
perceptions, expectations and issues facing modern families
today.
Peace is an experienced teacher having taught in all areas
of schooling from early childhood and primary through to secondary
and as such has an excellent understanding of the needs, interests
and abilities of children of all ages.
She is married to Ivan, mother to three young children and
has lived in Tropical North Queensland all her life.
