Port
Douglas Markets
The
markets are held in Port
Douglas every Sunday
from 9am till noon,
at Anzac Park right on the Esplanade and
close to town. You’ll find lots of great things on
offer for
kids and grown ups. Try a freshly opened coconut
or a tropical fruit slushie to cool you down or check out
the great range
of children's clothes, home made crafts and fine
art available
here.

Daintree
Rainforest
There
are several great walks through the rainforest once you
get to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation area. A great
short walk is the Mardja Botanical walk which goes through
the rainforest to Oliver Creek, for something a little
longer try the Dubiji Boardwalk with informative signs
along the way describing the plants and animals of the
area. The Myall Beach to Cape
Tribulation walk takes you
through rainforest and mangrove habitat to Cape
Tribulation's long sandy beach, this walk takes about one and
half hours to get there and back.

Mossman
Gorge
A cool
refreshing place for a picnic, this crystal clear stream
comes straight from the mountain. The rainforest
track is great even for small children to manage and they will
enjoy watching the beautiful butterflies of the rainforest
which can be seen flying freely here. Other animals you
might see while visiting Mossman Gorge National
Park include
platypus, turtles, jungle perch, quolls, wallabies and
a host of colourful rainforest birds.

Port
Douglas Playground
The
colourful boat-themed Port
Douglas playground is a great
spot for a play. Its located at Rex Smeal
Park right
on the waterfront and is just a short walk from the markets held
each Sunday. Its also quite close
to town making
it easy to gather some supplies for an improptu outdoor
picnic.

Four
Mile Beach
Four
Mile Beach is Port
Douglas' favourite beach. You can walk
to the beach from town in just 5 minutes, discovering a
long stretch of golden sand when you arrive. During the
'stinger
season' a net is provided to protect swimmers
from the highly
venomous box-jellyfish and allowing people
to swim in the balmy tropical waters all year round.
This long expanse of beach is also just perfect for letting
kids
get out
and run!

Cape
Tribulation
The
beaches north of Port
Douglas are wonderfully remote, you won't find
any snack bars or souvenir shops on the beachfront here,
just pristine ocean and sand where the forest
meets the sea.
Some of the beaches worth visiting are Noah
Beach, Cape Tribulation, Coconut Beach and Emmagen
Beach. These beaches are beautiful
and showcase Tropical North Queensland at
its best, some of them have short rainforest walks which
children will enjoy exploring as well. If you are visiting
anytime between November
and May we recommend that you stay out of the water though,
as there are no
stinger nets at these beaches.
